The feet support the entire body; therefore, foot health has a large impact on one’s overall health. The foot and ankle have 26 bones, 33 joints, and over 100 muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Consequently, there are a lot of areas in the feet and ankles where something can go wrong.  Podiatrists, albeit being specialists, are often the first practitioners to diagnose major systemic issues of the body.
When we think of a podiatrist, we tend to think of a doctor that treats broken ankles, hangnails, neuroma and performs foot surgery. But did you know, podiatrists can also treat several dermatology issues related to your feet?
In this week’s podcast episode, Marni will be speaking with Joseph Frenkel, Podiatrist and Wound Care Consultant.
Joseph is a highly qualified health professional having completed both a Bachelor of Podiatry and a Master of Science with a specialty in Wound Healing and Tissue Repair. Joseph has also completed a Professional Diploma in General Dermatology. This unique combination of qualifications with over 9 years of study, enables Joseph to treat a broad scope of the foot, dermatological and wound issues.

To date, Joseph has over 15 years of clinical experience in all areas of Podiatry and has worked extensively across private practices, aged care facilities and hospitals. His most recent role is Consultant Podiatrist at the Skin Health Institute where he works with a team of Dermatologists to manage complex nail problems.
It’s easy to take having healthy feet for granted, however, foot problems tend to be among the most common skin health conditions.
