Hormones can have a profound effect on the skin. Hormonal changes in adolescence can trigger the development of acne. In girls, Acne may fluctuate with hormonal levels over the course of the month. Some women find that taking birth control pills, which regulate hormones, can help control acne. Later on in life, during perimenopause (a time in which women start producing much less estrogen) until her periods stop entirely (menopause), the skin is also prone to changes.
Your hormones don’t just control how you feel — they can impact the health of your skin, too. With a quick Google search, you’ll find many articles promising that a “hormone reset” (via things like diet changes or supplements) will improve your skin health. But most often their claims are largely unfounded.
